The Implementation of a mental health literacy e-curriculum in Malawi universities (MHLeC) project is a 4-year research study led by Dr Sandra Jumbe from Millennium University. Supported by the African Academy of Sciences under the ARISE scheme, this project aims to increase mental health literacy in educational settings. Our e-curriculum targets first-year university students and is evaluated through a randomised feasibility trial.
We conduct mental health research in Malawi aimed at improving mental health literacy and youth-focused support.
MHLeC is based on findings from pilot studies exploring mental health and substance use among Malawi’s youth to guide culturally relevant interventions.
We mainstream mental health conversations using outreach and media to reach youth outside university settings.
Our website provides access to mental health information, lived experiences, and vetted service providers.
Look out for our annual festivals, media debates, and youth-focused activities delivered with our partners.
